Village at Woods Edge: Back Porch and Grille

Casual Dining for the Village and Beyond

The Village at Woods Edge is a retirement community in Franklin, Virginia, known for its small-town charm and warm, home-like feel.  The Village offers a range of living options and has carefully designed its campus so that whether residents are in fully independent living or assisted living, they feel that they’re in their own homes and their own home community. To augment that design, the property owners wanted to expand the dining services available to its residents.  The Village already offered a full-service restaurant-style dining room; the owners now wanted to add additional options to enhance the feeling of the Village as a true village.

Project Info

To realize the vision, Mather and Daly Architects created a plan for a smaller more casual dining area called the Back Porch and Grille, which includes a small bar, a patio, and more intimate seating.

We also designed a new dining area with a fireplace, boxed ceiling areas, outdoor seating and other design features that give it the feel of a quaint country club.

Throughout the design and construction process, we worked closely with the clients to ensure that the addition and renovations would integrate seamlessly into the existing building. The result is a warm, inviting suite of restaurants and dining rooms that offer residents of the Village a range of dining options.

In fact, members of the larger Franklin community have begun to join the Back Porch and Grille Dining Club – giving it, even more, the feeling of a casual gathering spot for the community.
