Harrisonburg City Fire Station No. 5

Decades of Discussion Coming to Fruition The City of Harrisonburg has discussed building a 5th fire station on the north end of town for decades.  Awarded through Design-Build, we broke ground on Station No. 5 in July of 2024.

Project Info

This 14,067 SF Fire Station is designed to support 24/7/365 operations and living quarters for fire department personnel including: offices, sleeping rooms, bathroom/shower/locker facilities, kitchen/dining space, a physical fitness room, congregant relaxation/study area, Information Technology/Telecommunications space, washer/dryer utility space, and dry goods storage.  The living quarters will be conventional construction while the attached apparatus bay with four lanes, each measuring approximately 80′ x 20′, will be a pre-engineered metal structure.  
Operational support rooms include personal protective clothing storage, a workshop, a primary utility room, a negative pressure cleaning room for contaminated materials, and space for EMS supplies and station supplies. The station shall also include a direct capture vehicle exhaust evacuation system, a generator capable of supporting all station operations, a station emergency alerting system, electric vehicle charging, and solar panels on the roof.  Flat surfaces in the apparatus bay will reduce carcinogen buildup for firefighter health.  This building complies with the new high performance building act requirements for localities.
